PLANS ANNOUNCED FOR “THE GREENVILLE NEWS SHAGGIN’ ON AUGUSTA”
The Rickey Godfrey Band will headline a night of beach music and oldies

Greenville, SC: Main Street Events, Inc. a Greenville-based festival and Event Production Company has announced plans for “The Greenville News Shaggin’ on Augusta” presented by Pepsi and Wachovia, to be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007 in the Lewis Plaza Shopping Center on Augusta Street. This years’ event will be held last from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM, with FREE admission to the public.

“It is all about the music at Shaggin on Augusta,” stated Byron K. Rucker, Executive Director of Main Street Events, Inc. – owner and producer of the event. “Folks from around the upstate recognize this event as the premiere dance party every spring, and Rickey Godfrey is widely known as a true showman, so the combination is a formula for success at every turn. We have a solid commitment from the Augusta Road Business Association going forward that only serves to enhance the business exposure for merchants along a great historical avenue in Greenville.”

ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE:
THE FABULOUS SHADES - 6:00 PM to 7:45 PM
The Fabulous Shades are based out of Greenville, SC. Raised on Rock N Roll and seeking every opportunity possible to entertain, Terry Robinson, Dana Jones and Rick Campbell formed The Fabulous Shades in The early 1980's. Three guys that cut their teeth on everything from Grand Funk Railroad to the Tempting Temptations, Elvis, Chairmen of the Board and tons of Beach Music, Rock and Roll, Soul and even a little country.

THE RICKEY GODFREY BAND - 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Rickey Godfrey, from Greenville SC, formed his first band in 1972 and quickly became well-known; touring through the US, Canada and Europe. In 2003, The Rickey Godfrey Band was formed. By 2004, they reached #1 on the Beach charts. Since then, they have won numerous Carolina Beach Music Awards including "Blues Album of the Year" and "Group Album of the Year" in 2006.

In addition to the great music, Shaggin on Augusta features soft drinks, beer and wine vendors and the “Moe’s Southwest Grill Children’s’ Area”. There will also be a dance contest sponsored by Advantage Health Systems, a new sponsor for the event. Corporate sponsors include The Greenville News, Pepsi, Wachovia, Budweiser, Ben Arnold Sunbelt Beverage, Augusta Road Business Association, WMYI-FM (MY102.5), McAlister’s Deli, Advantage Health Systems, Audio Solutions and Penske Truck Rentals.

Personal coolers and/or pets are not allowed in the event site. Patrons are encouraged to bring folding chairs and/or blankets as no seating is provided. There will be an area reserved for dancing.

Main Street Events, Inc. owns and operates Countybank Main Street Jazz, AT&T Red, White and Blue, B&B Development Downtown Sounds (Anderson, SC), as well as The Greenville News Shaggin on Augusta. MSE has management contracts with St. Francis Fall for Greenville, Artisphere International Arts Festival, TLC Laser Eye Centers Downtown Alive, USA Professional Cycling Championships, Wheels for Meals Cycling Fundraiser, and the BMW Charity Pro-AM at the Cliffs. MSE is also engaged in consulting roles with other markets throughout the eastern part of the U.S.
