ST. FRANCIS FALL FOR GREENVILLE ADDS STAR POWER

Tyler Florence returns home for appearances among all of the food and music for 2007

Greenville, SC:  The Board of Trustees of St. Francis Fall For Greenville announces plans for the annual street festival, presented by Pepsi and The Greenville News, this October 12th-14th in downtown Greenville.  This is the second of three years with Bon Secours St. Francis Health Systems as the title sponsor of Fall for Greenville, and the 26th year of the festivals existence.  Complete event information is available at www.fallforgreenville.net.

Forty-two (42) full-service restaurants will participate in the weekend long “Taste of our Town,” offering sample-sized portions from their menus, which has also become a great way to market their business to the masses.  Each restaurant has the option to offer up to 6 items, which give the festival-goer the chance to experience approximately 250 tastes in the festival’s 24 hours (Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday noon-7pm).   Restaurants will compete for the coveted “Silver Spoon” award for the best food, the Waiter’s Race, Tent Decorating and Bartender’s Mix-Off, all presented by AT&T, The Real Yellow Pages.

Live musical entertainment on five stages is ongoing throughout the weekend, with headline acts including country music favorite “Diamond Rio” on Friday the 12th, classic rock legend “Kansas” on Saturday the 13th, and “The Tams” on Sunday the 14th -- all appearing on the BB&T (Main) Stage.  Additional musical performances are scheduled on the Bud Stage (at the Hyatt), Verizon Wireless Stage (Coffee Street), and the Saturn Stage (Peace Center Amphitheatre).  To see the complete schedule, visit www.fallforgreenville.net.

A special appearance by Greenville native Tyler Florence will be highlighter on the Advantage Health Systems Culinary Stage, presented by Joyce Equipment Company and Foxfire (located on East McBee Ave).  Tyler will present two (2) live hour-long shows on Saturday at 1pm and 4pm.

For the first time in several years, the Downtown Greenville Cycling Classic will officially be a part of the festival.  The race course through the historic West End expands the event site to a record 6 million square feet along Main Street, from the Hyatt Regency to Augusta Street.

Additional features of the 2007 St. Francis Fall For Greenville include:

  • St. Francis “I Feel Good” area on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (located on W. Washington)
  • BI-LO Kids Zone featuring amusements (located on E. Washington)
  • 15th Annual WSSL Chili Cook-off (located on West Broad Street)

  • Greenville Tech/US FoodService Ice Carving Competition (located on W. McBee)

As in years past, area non-profits have been selected to provide volunteers over the festival weekend; each organization, in turn, will receive a share of event proceeds based on the number of man-hours they contribute.  The organizations chosen as this year’s beneficiaries are Boy Scout Troop 260, Boy Scout Troop 776, The Greenville Humane Society, Meals on Wheels, Women Build, Newcomers of Greater Greenville, Roundtowners, Operation Bear Hug, SHARE, Blue Star Mothers of the Upstate, Greenville County Foster Parent Association, Hands on Greenville, American Red Cross, Adoption Coalition for Education and Support, and Berea VFW Post 10330.  These organizations will provide over 1,600 volunteers during the weekend.  Visit http://www.mainstevents.com/fallforgreenvillevolunteers.html for more information on each organization.
